  • "The problem with Buc-ees is that it mostly serves people who are just passing through the community. It then syphons the profits out of the community, leaving the community to suffer the increased traffic, groundwater contamination, light pollution, crime, and drop in property values."

  • "Buc-ees is choosing this location to cherry-pick fuel customers from the brand new giant QT Truck stop 5 minutes away, when traveling from Denver/Castle Rock to the Springs and beyond, after driving that beautiful stretch of nature between Castle Rock and here. This development would not solve any needs for our community. It would just introduce more problems."

  • "Just 10 gallons of petroleum has the potential to contaminate up to 12 million gallons of water. Buc-ee’s will store hundreds of thousands of gallons of petroleum and hazardous chemicals underground, which risk soaking into soil and drinking water sources."

  • "Studies show emissions from the concentration of just 200 running vehicles can create harmful conditions for breathing. Buc-ee’s 7,000 - 25,000 estimated daily visitors will result in an air pollution hot-spot, amongst other major issues. The location is home to multiple schools, churches, preserved forest, and the beloved small town of Palmer Lake - rich in it's values. This project would be disastrous for both the town and its nature."

BOARD OF TRUSTEE’S MEETING

TO DETERMINE IF LAND CAN BE

ANNEXED

12/12/2024

Palmer Lake Board of Trustees voted that the land could be annexed (vote 4-1) but this decision contradicts Palmer Lake's Master City Plan including their ordinances for preserving a small town feel, ordinances to reject commerciality, ordinances against franchise businesses, ordinances to protect dark sky, etc and disregards technical land regulations, town's resources for emergency responses and water resources.
